FINALLY!

It appears that barring any unexpected snags, Peyton Manning has decided on the Denver Broncos as his new team. Tennessee and San Francisco: thanks for playing.

It's not too big a surprise Manning has chosen the Broncos. There's a lot to like there: a coaching staff that isn't afraid to change things up offensively to best fit the skills of their players. Good, young WR's. A good offensive line. An emerging defense. A winnable division. All things that appeal.

But it's an even bigger deal for the Broncos organization.

It was no secret that the Broncos and John Elway were expecting Tim Tebow to fail when they caved in to public pressure to insert Tebow into the starting lineup. And for 56 minutes of the first game Tebow started in 2011 they were getting the results they expected. They had scored no points; they weren't moving the football at all offensively. And a shutout would have meant they could put Tebow on the bench the following week while telling the fans they knew the experiment would fail and they were proven right.

Instead, Tebow led the Broncos back in the last 4 minutes, forced overtime, and won the game. And Tebowmania was born. Last minute heroics piled up wins and even though the Broncos didn't believe in Tebow as a legitimate QB, the results energized a fan base that had gotten apathetic during Josh McDaniels tenure.

By getting Peyton Manning, the Broncos are now free to trade Tebow, and appeal to their fans at the same time. There's very few who think the Broncos would be better off with Tebow as opposed to Manning. The fans in Denver are now realistically dreaming about a Super Bowl. They will embrace Manning and forget Tebow. And forget Tebow they will do as it's unimaginable that Denver will keep him. Now that they have an excuse to get rid of him, I fully expect Denver to do so.

Rejoice, Broncos fans! You are now a legitimate Super Bowl contender. I'm not saying you are going to win a Super Bowl; but you are a whole lot closer now than you were if you had Tim Tebow back as your starting QB.

The free agent frenzy has been full of signings. None bigger than this one (once they get an official deal done). And you can see my break down of all the free agent quarterback signings to date here.

...and the first BIG quarterback falls. Guess a fool and their money are easily parted. It doesn't surprise me someone would shell out BIG money for Manning. I still want to see him in action, after being burned by him last year as a 4th round pick in one of my leagues. I am not sold on him being 100% healthy, obviously Elbow and the Broncos are. I am sure they are already writing their ticket to win the AFC West with this move.

I really believe that Manning went to the Broncos because of their receivers.

I wonder what Eddie Royal is thinking now! LOL!

Can't fault Royal, went where the money was, especially with the question swirling around the QB in DEN. Tebow won't make you an all=pro, while Philip Rivers could.

Royal should be happy to get a better QB in Rivers. But if he knew he would have had Manning in Denver he might have stayed. But he was miscast as a starter. His first game as a rookie was a fluke and he never lived up to the hype created by that afterwards. In San Diego, he'll be the #3 or 4 WR with the best QB he's had to work with so far.

Royal needs to stay healthy. I think it was a bad move by SD but he won't be one of the top WRs on the team.
