So the Silver and Black got Brooks? Not unexpected (see the Word to the Winners free agent QB article), but on only a two year deal says something. It says that they are looking for either Andrew Walter to be ready to take over by then, or that they are planning to draft someone in the first round this year to take over by then.

Brooks was a solid fantasy QB just a couple of years ago, and he now has a better WR corps in Oakland than he ever had in New Orleans. Problem is that if the Raiders don't win actual NFL games, then there's an excellent chance Brooks won't get 16 full starts in 2006. 2005 and the woes that went with it were squarely (and unfairly) placed on Kerry Collins shoulders and I seriously doubt if the Raiders have enough overall to finish with a winning record in 2006.

That said, if the Raiders surprise me by either winning more games than I expect, or stick with Brooks despite losing, it's not a stretch to imagine Brooks will enjoy a season that is easily the average of his 2001-2004 seasons (the 4 seasons he started all 16 games for the Saints). Those numbers would translate into 3,690 pass yards and 24-25 pass TD's. And what makes these numbers more believable than the 4,000 yds and 25+ TD's Kerry Collins was being projected for by many last season is that Brooks has actually thrown 24 or more TD's 3 times in the last 5 seasons. Collins has never reached 24 TD's in a single season in his entire pro career.

Brooks will come with big risks, but he'll also have some big rewards as well. A smart fantasy drafter probably takes Brooks and trades him after the first few weeks when his value is still high and upgrades another position.

I would agree on the prediction of Brooks, however, the Raiders are worse off than we all think. I don't see them winning six games. I ask the question...Who are the veteran Leaders of that team? Moss and Sapp? They will not win 5 games next year.

I may change but for now I will not select any Raiders to fill my Fantasy Football Rosters.

“I am hosting one league on NFL.com as well. Personally I thing there projections are way out of sync and have been less than reliable. I completely ignored them all year and instead took input from the LA at FFS which has proven to be much more accurate”. (Hooked 5 year Member)
