I would like to open the floor for projections on exactly how many games it will take before the "Edge" loses his edge in Arizona. I predict that something magical will transpire, the once mighty James will either become very average or injury prone in Cardinal red and white. We don't know why; we just know this will come to pass. My guess is no more than 8 games into the '06 season.

I would have said that in the past as well, however, there is optimisim that this may put them in the right direction. Strong leadership at the QB position, stud WR's, young defense, new stadium - that's grass. Who knows, this just might be the guy that gets them to the promised land. Up here at the Fantasy Sports Trade Association meeting in Las Vegas and over dinner this evening our very own "Red Zone Russ Bliss" wants to go $20.00 that the card's will win the NFC West next year. After I got up from falling off my chair - It hit me... If we play fantasy football, why can't the Cardinals have a fantasy of their own.

Gonna be tough to call the studs.

I've heard it all before: "we're finally turning the corner," "this is a new team with a new attitude," etc. Yes, yes. Until they show me something, I expect little significant improvement with the Cards.

My prediction has nothing to do with the signing of Edgerrin James as I originally made that prediction right after the Super Bowl in February.

And believe me, you simply CAN'T find a more cynical Cardinals fan than me. Being under contract to do those post game shows year after year will easily do that for a person, and I haven't bought into any of the rhetoric about "new team" or new "attitude" since Buddy Ryan suckered me in when he took over for Joe Bugel. Since that first year under Ryan, I've never bought into anyone else's hype.

But rather, when I originally made the prediction, and reitetarted it to Jeff, it had ntohing to do with Edge, it was about the NFL Law of Averages (not to be confused with the article on the Fantasy Law of Averages). Even the worst teams in the NFL will, on average, still have a winning season 10% of the time. In the 18 years the Cards have been in Arizona, they have exactly 1 winning season. I just believe that there is a greater chance of the Cardinals having a successful season in 2006. I won't go into reasons, because I don't have any that are stronger than that Law of Averages. And it doesn't always work, but more often than not it does.

Regardless, it's nice to have the NFL to talk about.

Good Morning!!! Like to add my thoughts to the Edge signing after having a week to digest the pros and cons.PROS Got people excited and this signing coupled with the new stadium will put some butts in the stands. He is a substantial upgrade from the Arrington/Shipp tandem.CONS Cardinals real Achille's heel is the O Line and that has not been addressed.I do not consider the signing of the lineman from Houston a fix.Edge will not run wild behind this line and the double teaming on the studs outside will continue. This offense will not force the defense to put 7 or 8 in the box. Edge is a "grinder" and his 20 yard plus runs days are over. I think the Card's will improve from last year but I do not see them leapfrogging Seattle and winning the NFC West. They MIGHT contend for a wild card berth. If they start the season with the same O Line as last year and think that signing Edge will remedy their woeful running game, they will be in for a rude awakening.

He is a piece of the puzzle but not without an O Line and if the Cards start drafting LB's as has been suggested in April, they truly do not get it.Colts liked Edge a lot but they knew that he wasn't worth that kind of money and I bet that they have at least a 1200yd guy in the backfield next season because they DO have an O LINE. The LAW of AVERAGES theory that Russ suggests will not apply without an O Line.PERIOD!!

Bob, very well put!!! The Cards lack a sound foundation. All the skill players in the world could not make a real difference, if there is no O-line to open holes in the running game and pass protect in the pass game. And, because the Cards O-line has been so poor, I predict that the Edge will get beat up too much and will ultimately be injured. Another brilliant move by the Cards.

Not saying it's a good OL, but it certainly isn't so bad that Edge won't get 1200+ and 10+ TD's. If a way-past-his-prime Emmitt Smith, in his 15th and last NFL season, can get 937 and 9 behind what is considered an inferior OL to the current one, while having the three-headed QB disaster of McCown/King/Navarre, then why is it the everyone thinks Edge, in the prime of his career, will struggle to get to 800???

For the pure purpose of fantasy football, the Texans supposedly have had one of the worst OL's in the NFL the past 3 seasons and it didn't stop Domanick Davis from averaging 80 rush yards per game in the 40 games he played in. Does anyone think DD is a better RB than Edge?

Yes, but Russell, the Texans aren't cursed, like the Cardinals.

LMAO!

Nice one, AJ! Spoken like a true cynic.

But let me point out that in the past 3 years we've seen two of the longest sports curses have been broken. The curse of the Bambino for the Boston Red Sox and the Black Sox scandal for the Chicago White Sox. Granted, both were in MLB, but still, those curses were broken. Just cross your fingers that the Cardinals aren't cursed like the Cubs.
