WIDE RECEIVERS

***NEW INJURIES***

Steve Smith/WR/CAR (Foot) - He has been on crutches for an infection in his foot.  Head Coach Ron Rivera said Smith is doing fine and is expected to play Week 1.

Danny Amendola/WR/STL (Elbow, Triceps) - The injuries appear to be a non-issue as he is working with the first team in camp.  We like him as a WR4/RB5 in most fantasy leagues.

Miles Austin/WR/DAL (Hamstring) - Hamstring injuries limited his production in 2011 and even though he says he isn't worried about the latest injury, but fantasy owners should.  He is a risky pick, but, if healthy, is worthy of a WR2 selection.
*** UPDATE***
He is expected to play Week 1.

Davone Bess/WR/MIA (Knee) - He injured his knee in the last game of the 2011 season, but has been practicing and should be fine for the 2012 season.  With WR Brandon Marshall having moved on to Chicago, Best has a little higher fantasy value and is worthy of a WR4 option.
*** UPDATE***
Rookie Ryan Tannehill has been named the starting QB which is something to consider when drafting Dolphins receivers.  For what it is worth, Bess is looking like the no. 1 wide receiver for the Dolphins.

Kenny Britt/WR/TEN (Knees) - Following two off-season knee surgeries, it's no surprise to see Britt on the pre-season PUP list.  The injuries as well as an off-season arrest really negatively affect his fantasy value. There is a possibility he will miss at least the first six games of the season. He is still dealing with his knees, but has met with NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodell and waiting to see what his suspension will be.
*** UPDATE***
He has been removed from the preseason PUP list and added to the active roster.  He is expected to start practicing this week.  He has been suspended the first game of the regular season but will return in week 2.

Vincent Brown/WR/SD (Broken Ankle) - He will be out at least eight weeks which means week six of the regular season at best.  The Chargers will have to count on WRs Robert Meachem and Malcom Floyd to go along with TE Antonio Gates to fill in for Brown.

Dez Bryant/WR/DAL (Ankle) - Bryant left practice yesterday with a knee issue, but test results indicated there were no structural damage and he is suffering from patellar tendinitis.  He is expected to rest his knee and not be available for the remaining preseason games.  We'll keep an eye on this situation.
*** UPDATE***
As far as his injury is concern, he has been working with the trainers and is expected to be ready to go Week 1.  Also, Bryant agreed to a strict conduct policy from the Cowboys which includes a curfew, no alcohol and he will essentially have a body guard with him at all times to keep him out of trouble.  This is good news for fantasy owners who pick him as a WR1.

Andre Caldwell/WR/DEN (Groin) - He suffered a season ending groin injury last season, but should be ready to go week one of this year.  With new QB Peyton Manning, Caldwell is worthy of a later round pick in most leagues.
*** UPDATE***
He was injured (ribs) in in second preseason game.  He is back at practice.  Caldwell is not a draftable WR at this point, but he was fighting for that third WR spot with Brandon Stokley.

Austin Collie/WR/IND (Concussion) - He suffered the concussion in last week's game against the Steelers.  He dealt with concussions in the 2011 season and he is not expected to be available for the remainder of the preseason. He is listed as day-to-day, but is status for Week 1 is in question.
*** UPDATE***
He is expected to be ready for Week 1.

David Gettis/WR/CAR (Knee) - He has been placed on the pre-season PUP list due to his current hamstring injury.  Once he comes off that list he will be fighting for the No. 3 WR spot.  Depending how it plays out, he is a possible free agent pick up during the season if he comes on.
*** UPDATE***
He has been placed on the in-season PUP list and will sit out at least the first six games.

Leonard Hankerson/WR/WSH (Hip) - He appears to be healthy and having a good camp.  With good speed and size and he will be a nice target for rookie QB Robert Griffin.

Brian Hartline/WR/MIA (Appendectomy) - He's not 100% yet, but should be ready for the season.  He is a WR5 at best, but worthy to keep an eye on as the season progresses and could be an option as a free agent pick-up.
*** UPDATE***
He still slowed by a calf injury suffered in OTA's and has not practiced in training camp.  If he can get healthy, he may be an in-season free agent pick-up if playing well.

Santonio Holmes/WR/NYJ (Back-Ribs) - He has been dealing with this injury for a week and was held out of the last preseason game.  He may try to practice this week and there is a slight possibility of seeing some action in this week's preseason game.
*** UPDATE***
He has been practicing and did play in the third preseason game.

Michael Jenkins/WR/MIN (Knee) - He appears to be healthy and is expected to be the Vikings No. 3 WR.  Not a whole lot of fantasy value here except in very large leagues.

Andre Johnson/WR/HOU (Hamstring) - This situation is an important one to keep an eye on.  He was out of action for nine games last season with and hamstring injury and early in camp he suffered a minor groin injury.  It's not considered serious and he should be back soon.  If 100% healthy and with a healthy QB Matt Schaub, Johnson is a sure WR1.  Let's see how he does in camp.
*** UPDATE***
The latest is a rib injury and was held out of practice earlier this week.  He is expected to be fine for Week 1.

Stevie Johnson/WR/BUF (Groin) - He did have surgery in the off season.  We like his upside and think he is worthy of a WR2 selection.   He has taking it slow due to some tightness in his groin.  But, he is saying it's nothing to be concerned about.
*** UPDATE***
He has admitted that the groin is still an issue, but it doesn't appear to be too much of a problem at this point.

Donald Jones/WR/BUF (Ankles) - Jones missed eight games in 2011 due to his injuries.  He enters camp behind Steve Johnson and David Nelson, who plays the slot position.  He is a late round gamble if he plays well in pre-season, but best thought of as a free agent pick-up during the season.

Johnny Knox/WR/CHI (Back) - He is on the pre-season PUP list to start training camp.  Not a strong fantasy option and it's possible he'll sit out the entire season.

Robert Meachem/WR/SD (Knee) - He had knee surgery in the off season, but is ready for training camp.  Meachem is being counted on heavily by the Chargers to replace Vincent Jackson who signed with Tampa Bay.  Meachem should be considered a strong WR3 in most leagues.

Josh Morgan/WR/WSH (Leg) - Morgan suffered a broken leg last season while with the 49ers.  Keep an eye on him throughout training camp.  If healthy, the veteran WR will be an asset to rookie QB RGIII and is worthy of a late round pick.  He has a slight hamstring issue, but it's not keeping him out of practice.
*** UPDATE***
He is still behind starter Santana Moss and No. 2 Leonard Hankerson for the slot position.

Hakeem Nicks/WR/NYG (Foot) - The Giants are taking it very slowly with his injury and are hoping he will be ready for Week 1 or earlier.  Once healthy he is a lower end WR1 or high WR2 in most leagues.
*** UPDATE***
He is expected to be ready to play Week 1.

Sidney Rice/WR/SEA (Knee, Shoulder) - The Seahawks will bring him along slowly in training camp, but the good thing is, he is NOT on the pre-season PUP list.  If he can get through training camp healthy, he would be a strong WR3 with good upside.
*** UPDATE***
He appears to be on track for Week 1 of the regular season.

Jordan White/WR/NYJ/ROOKIE (Foot) - He suffered a fractured foot in OTAs, but should be ready for training camp.  If he makes the team, he is worth a look as a late round pick in dynasty leagues.

Kendall Wright/WR/TEN/ROOKIE (Shoulder) - He was a first round draft choice by the Titans with very good speed.  He played well in the Titan's first two preseason games.  With the most likely suspension as well as knee injuries plaguing Kenny Britt, Wright could move up to a late round option in larger leagues.
