Breaking down the game within the game:

Rodgers vs Roethlisberger:

Rodgers has the better targets to throw to, but the lack of running game for the Packers can be a hinderance, matching up Ike Taylor on Greg Jennings is a draw. Take away the slip against Santonio Holmes in the AFC Championship game and Taylor has shut down the best WR's in the NFL all year long. This leaves the rest of the field open where Troy Polamalu patrols. He has been playing "Center Field" the past 2 weeks and other than the Taylor slip against Holmes, there have been no deep plays againts the Steelers this playoff season.

Roethlisberger faces an awesome pass rush from the Packers front 7, but the difference between Roethlisberger and anyone else the Packers play is that Ben thrives on contact, he has the Super Bowl experience and though his stats will not reflect, he is a born winner.
Advantage Steelers.

Running Backs: The forementioned lack of Running game for the Packers and the emergence of Mendenhall is no contest.

Advantage: Steelers

Wide Receivers and Tight Ends: Green Bay has the speed and skill at this position, quality receivers and a QB that can get them the ball
Pittsburgh has Mike Wallace, an aging Hines Ward who was held under 1000 yards this year. A couple of rookies who look promising and an underutilized Heath Miller.
Advanatage: Green Bay

Offensive Line: Maurkice Pouncey looks like he will miss the Super Bowl, with a patchwork O-Line all season the Steelers are held together by duct tape and grit.

Advantage: Packers

D-Line: The Steelers are emerging with Pro Bowler Brett Keisel, second year man Ziggy Hood, and All Pro Nose Tackle Casey Hampton.
Green Bay has a young and promising line, but it's not as good as the Steelers just yet.

Advantage Steelers

Linebackers: Green Bay has a young corps talent and who I think should be Defensive MVP Clay Matthews will most assuredly receive extra attention.

While Matthews may be the Defensive MVP, he can't beat the best LB corps in the NFL.

Advantage Steelers

Secondary:
The Steelers have Tory Polamalu, but there is a weak link in William Gay. With Bryant McFadden nursing an ab strain he will most assuredly be picked on all game.

Green Bay comes in with a strong team secondary led by Charles Woodson he is relentless, can tackle, cover and blitz.

Advantage Packers

Special Teams: The Steelers cut long time kicker Jeff Reed who struggled all season, then later lost punter Dan Sepulvida to a knee injury.

Green Bay has a solid kicking game and good return game as well.

Advantage Packers:

Coaching: A Super Bowl already won by Tomlin, and with D-Coordinator Dick Lebeau (who coached under Packers D-Coordinator Dom Capers) have the experience and knowledge. What is funny is that Capers was the D-coordinator, but used Lebeau's schemes and knowledge'
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is from Pittsburgh... but that's not going to help.

Advantage Steelers

Do the math and it comes down to a very close game. The Steelers win the advantage 5-4 over the Packers, and win the game...

Final Score:
Steelers 31 Packers 27

I wrote an article and sent it to Russ about my prediction. I would have picked Pittsburgh until Pouncey sustained his high ankle sprain, now I am predicting Green Bay will win in a close game.

I like both teams and think this will be a very good superbowl. I'm rooting for the Packers to win but look forward to some really Great football.

If Rodgers can establish a passing game, I would think Starks might have some luck on the ground. But the way that Mendy was used against the Jets that was one of the best games I have seen him play this year. I agree the Steelers have the advantage on the ground, but I won't discount Starks quite yet. Honestly I don't care who wins, I just want to see a good game on both sides of the ball. But force me to pick and I will get the edge to the Steelers.

Russ, yes I got it, but didn't check my email until Friday evening. I did send you a response, albeit a bit late. Two responses in fact. Thanks!

No problem Robert! Glad you chimed in on your own as this is one of the closest matched Super Bowls going into the game I can think of in recent memory.
